Parent Involvement Policy



  1. Statement of Purpose

    AISD’s mission statement is to graduate every student prepared for success beyond high school.  Avondale supports the mission statement and also that a collaborative and positive relationship between the school and family will be a power factor on student success.  We want to maintain close ties to families and the community in order to help all students reach their potential.  We welcome and strongly encourage parent involvement at Avondale.

  2. Parent Involvement in Developing Policies

    Our Site Based Decision Making Committee is made up of teachers, community members and parents.  We will also involve parents in reviewing and revising the Parent Involvement Policy and School/Parent Compact each year.

  3. Annual Meetings for Title 1 Schools

    Each year we provide information to parents about Title 1 services at our Registration and Open House events.

    After the 1st six weeks grading period, we provide parents with the opportunity to meet with the teacher for a conference.  During the conference the student’s progress, Title 1 information and the School/Parent Compact will be discussed.

  4. School/Parent Compact

    The Avondale School/Parent Compact was developed by a team of parents, teachers and the parental involvement coordinator.  The Compact lists the expectations for students, teachers and parents and encourages continuing education in the future.

  5. Matching Programs and Community Needs

    Parents completed a district survey that helps assess the needs of the families and children of the community.  Parent trainings are provided in literacy, ESL, child development and other areas of concern.  Parents are notified of trainings through student folders and phone calls.

  6. Staff/Parent Communication

Communication with families occurs through the use of take-home folders, phone calls, conferences, school events and the Avondale Website.  Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher at any time.
